Title: Gearbox ECU?
Post by: tomoco on 15 May 2008, 13:27:28
A problem has just come up on a mates auto omega 2.2.(2002) He's not on the web so he's asked me to ask you guys for advice.
Here are the symptoms.
Most of the time all the gear selector lights are on, every now and then just the 3 light (3rd gear) is on.
the only light that works correctly is reverse (R).
Car does not seem to be in 1st gear from initial start up (seems to be pulling away in 2nd or 3rd gear.

He's taken it to 2 garages. The first said he needs a new selector switch, the other garage seems to think that he needs a new gearbox ECU.
Any ideas?
Thanks in advance
Mark

Selector switch, cant be the ecu as the selector lights are driven directly by the switch.

Worth removing the switch, cleaning it up and re-fitting.

Thanks Mark, he's on nightshift this week with me so i'll see him tonight. This topic could take a while with all this relaying. Is the selector switch easy to remove and do you get at it from under or inside the car

Yes, its on the passneger side of the gearbox and held on with a few bolts and a nut.

Just do it when the car and cats are cold!
