Title: Door Trim
Post by: Jester on 17 May 2008, 22:34:32
SWMBO returned the car today with the rear passenger door trim bent.  It's obviously caught on the front passenger door as it's been opened and forced.

Anyone else suffered a similar problem?  Mother-in-law did it a while ago but I managed to stop it before it got bent out of shape that time...  no such luck this time.

I'm wondering if heating the plastic up might help it return to it's original shape?

The book of lies doesn't cover how it's attached to the door - I'm talking about the black plastic strip that's halfway down the door.

Any ideas?

Yes I have had this on almost every car I have had :'(!

Always found that you can never satisfactorily flatten them back out (especially if chrome trim is integral to it) and purchasing a replacement is always the best option. :y :y

Damn - Might have known  >:(

Well, it'll be remaining battle scarred for a while then until I get spare cash.  Quite a few things started to annoy me now on the bodywork front - most bizarre one I've got is two small dents on the roof which appeared after leaving it in a B&Q car park one Saturday morning.   :o

Its a design flaw mate, the strip peels away from the double sided tape over time and then the edge catches on the back of the front door when the back door is opened and prises it away...

'tis maybe why the later ones slide and clip on -- took 'em years to discover  :-/

Here's a "how to", trouble is the clips have to go on the trim first then pushed into to door..if you look at the last photo you'll see what I mean, and the other end is the complete opposite, ie sliding the clip in the other way, so if you break the clips getting the strip off you cant buy them as a separate part as they only come with the strip..my only difference to this "how to" was I used a flexible blade craft knife to save the paint work.
