Title: Any ideas on this one?
Post by: Taxi_Driver on 17 May 2008, 21:52:49
Been doing it for a week now........

Doesnt do it all the time......but sometimes

When I select P from either D or R, the engine nearly stalls......when it does it, it has always recovered and idles at 700rpm.....

Seems odd to me as I would expect revs to maybe blip upwards slightly as load is taken of engine....

Any ideas??

Cheers

Clean the ICV if it's got one you don't say what engine it is but that problem does sound like a old Carlton trait and it's always ICV. Same part used on both cars to.

Surely the first question is:- does it do it on petrol or LPG or both.

Throttle body and breathers, especially the sump breather.

Think ive found it!  :)

Just changed the air filter and noticed a vac pipe under the airbox going nowhere.....

The pipe that didnt go anywhere one end, went to the evapourator for the lpg......the T piece it should have been connected to....one pipe went the throttle body........so not sure what that would have been causing the throttle to do.......but i think no vac on the evapourator means max pressure lpg being allowed.......

Not sure how long its been like it........poss since it went under surgery a few weeks ago  :-/

Tried it with engine running.....pulling of the vac pipe just seems to make the engine idle very slightly higher.....so something I wouldnt have noticed.......

But hopefully its cured the prob  :y
