Title: Oil Cooler
Post by: mantahatch on 20 May 2008, 08:26:27
Hi all
Just stripping down the seized engine from mum's car. Have taken the oil cooler out and it seams to be in very good condition no corrosion, but it is the steel one (well magnet sticks to it)
The question is should I keep it as a spare for mine or thow it away and but a new one when/if mine eventually leaks.

It should be a steel one....stainless steel!

Keep it, they dont really cause any trouble if the antifreeze mix is kept correct but, worth having it on the shelf!

Thanks for the reply, I will keep it then. I did not think magnets stuck to stainless steel, or am I having a moment.

Depends on the quality of the stainless. I can't quote all the grades but food grade 304 stainless is not magnetic but some of the cheaper grades are slightly.
