Question - why !!!!  :o :o
plus that offset may cause wheel arch contact, wheel bearing issuses, also 6mm longer wheel bolts, of the same type and spec as standard ones, best of luck.

I'm shortly taking delivery of some new wheels that are a 42 off set
that were recommended for the MIG, so why not just have a thinner spacer, say a 3mm

With an offset of 40 you shouldn't need spacers . I've just fitted OEM 17" Elite wheels and they are +39 offset with plenty of space between the 235 tyre and the strut casing.
Too much camber will bring the tyre closer to the strut ,what was the wear pattern on the old tyres ? I have adjusted my camber to zero or thereabouts and the car drives perfectly with tyre wear even and uniform.
