Dear all,
I am thinking of doing the Tech2 Gearbox update for the Mini facelift Omega.
Has any member who owns a 1998 Omega 2.5 v6 CDX Auto saloon with Climate have done this update? If so, can you share your experience please?
(i.e. the smoothness of the gear change / ride quality / or in particular any other observation that you have noticed before and after the update )
With kind regards,
-
Hi, Hopefully getting the tech2 gearbox upgrade from TB at the WIM open day on sunday on my facelift elite estate. If you havn't had yours done by then i will pm you in the evening with my thoughts to any improvements. :y

Likewise ... :) and the climate one ... :) (Shall we form a queue ???)
Will post the results up here Sunday night :)

Climate as well? Same here. Yep... better form a queue then :y ;D ;D

I had both done last night by The Boy.
It's really like driving a different car, and one that doesn't blow a tornado in the car as well
This is the second Miggy i have had it done the S/W updates for, the gearbox changes are a lot smoother
I also had the engine software updated, it seems to have lost all its flat spots, the pedal isn't quite so trigger happy (DBW remember)

I was planning to join our fellow OOF memebers at the WIM Open day, unfortunately I am working this weekend.
Awaiting your feedback on the gearbox s/w update.
Hope everything goes well and enjoy the WIM Open day.
With kind regards

is gearbox software update worth doing if everything seems to be running without fault, by that i mean is it like an upgrade rather than a repair? interested to know what difference it will make

Gearbox and climate updates on Tech2
What are the differences after the updates.?
-
Must admit my climate does blow like mad and the gearbox can be very abrupt on the up change. Didn't know you could do a flash on the software

ummm... i'm guessing this ISN'T the tech 2 we're talking about? or is it?

anyone got this?

Purchased something similar but it dosen't do 2.5 or 3.0lt. I think theres some differences even thou the plug still has 16 pins. Think it's called gm 10 wire,gm 12 wire or true OBD 2.

That will read and reset codes.
Real tech2 costs several thousand pounds.

Yes it's worth having it done. Changes are far smoother. :y

Gearbox update done today (Thanks TB) then an 86 mile drive home.
Definitely a major improvement .. (went from v3 to V9 if memory serves me correctly) ... changes are smoother - mostly you only notice by tone change /rpm change, "kick-down" seems to be a shade faster - might be my imagination, but MPG has definately improved by about 2 mpg overall on the average which is on 390 miles right now. I'm not certain but it feels like the "lock-up" is occuring about 10 mph earlier. Well pleased
Climate upgrade ... I wasn't very happy initially. For the first 25 miles it did nothing but blow cold air - not conditioned cold ... just cold.. even on max heat. I turned it off for 30 minutes (I was bloody frozen) then retried it, on max heat I got very luke warm air in. Turned off for 10 minutes, retried, now a decent bit warmer .. not hot but useable... used that to get home.
Went out tonight, car had been unused for 4 hours, and it is almost back to normal .. on max it's pretty hot, and it's controlling at 21C reasonably well..... hopefully it will continue to sort itself out and return to normal.
One other oddity ... it no longer does a "reset" (that I can hear anyway) on pressing auto+off like it used to... :(
On the plus side .. TB not only did the gearbox/climate . but AFAIK on al the cars he plugged into he did a full diagnostic check as well, very gratefull for that... thanks :y :y :y

The software update will not magically fix problems with the gearbox. It is a firmware update to make a perfectly working box work even better.

Keep me updated on the climate issue - the flash went OK, so not sure what could be causing you the grief. Possible the newer software is acting on an inaccurate sensor that the older software paid less attention to. Not sure :-/
If necessary, we can always delve inside what the ECU thinks its seeing, and use that as a basis for further investigation...

Thanks for that .. it seems to be settling down now, although the "feet" area is a tad cool, rest of the vents blow nicely warm and the temp, from the knees up, is very nice ...
;D ;D
We'll see how it goes and I might ask you to take a peep at the lakes .. if you have time and it's still playing up .. it's certainly "livable" with for now .. :)
Hope you're feeling better :)
Regards

Yup, get either Marks_DTM or I to do a live data check on it. If it becomes too bad in the meantime, blat up past Oxford to deepest Brackley :y

great stuff, i thought as much. will be in touch at some point about getting an update. feedback seems to be very positive following the change so i figure it may well be worth doing. :y

Same here, done by TB about 3 months ago. I couldn't believe the difference in the gearbox. :y (DBW 3.2)

Dear all,
Many thanks for all your valuable feedback.
It seems the gearbox firmware update would be a beneficial one for me. I'll first change/renew the ATF (I suspect mine still has the original gear oil ? @75k) and then get the firmware done.
TB, I'll PM you once I am ready for the update.
Now finding the time to do the ATF change ?????
with kind regards

Had my gearbox oil changed over the weekend and it took 5l of dex 3. It had made a huge diff to the way the car drives now you can not tell most of the time when the gears change and they hold on to the gears a lot less which has given better mpg.The oil in mine had not been changed before as far as i know and mine is 145k.
I had the gearbox software update about a year ago and with the new oil has made a great diff to things. :y

Is there anywhere north of border anyone offering this procedure or are we left at the mercy of Dealers who might or might not do this and charge plenty, I like to see what is done to my car not just be told.
