hi my 2.5 v6 as started to make a strange clicking sound from engine sounds lie when i was young and put lolipop sticks in bycle wheels told that will cost me £1000 to put right as the engine as to come out toput neww gaskets on exhust manifolds is this right or can it be done another way
-
Does the sound lessen as it warms up?
If so, probably exhaust manifolds.
The engine doesn't need to come out to change them (unless perhaps a stud has broken - even then taking the cylinder head off would be easier).
The accepted wisdom seems to be to replace only with multi-layer steel gaskets, not pattern composite gaskets as they don't last.

thats what they said is on there and they reckon the metal layers come apart as to wether the sound goes when hot sometimes when on long jorney
-
Well the metal layer ones were never fitted from the factory......so unless they have been changed in the past.
Drivers side manifold gasket takes about 3 hours, apssengers about 2-3 hours (but these rarely fail).
Its worth checking the EGR corrugated pipe is secure also before doing anything

Ahmmm... that's MarkDTM's times... mere mortals might find it takes slightly longer.... ;D
