Hi guys,
I have had some crank sensor problems of late, engine just cuts out abruptly, replacing 2 thinking they might be faulty, when removing the latest one i noticed there was oil all over it. So i cleaned it up and its running fine now and no cut outs or EML so far :)
However i bet you can guess my next question.
Is the oil something i should be worried about and thinking about getting a second mortgage for? Its not using a noticable amount of oil more than normal.
Cheers in advance guys. :y

Anyone know where it could be coming from only i cant see anywhere obvious.

Are you talking about oil on the outside of the sensor, the bit
that stays above the crankcase when fitted, or on the drum shaped
bit that is inside the crankcase when fitted?
If on the outside, it's likely to be cam cover leak that tracks
down the crank sensor cable, gets trapped by the cable protective
sleeve that covers the bottom third, and leaks out onto the sensor.
It could also be power steering fluid if you have a leak from the pump.
The pump hides and is in close proximity to the sensor.
If it is on the inside, the drum shaped bit inside the crankcase, check
that your oil level is not too high with the car on level ground.
Your oil sits in the sump bolted onto your crankcase. If overfilled,
it can be thrashed around and aerated by your crankshaft.

It was on the side of the barrell, I thought it was just a recess it sits in, cos i can feel a bottom to it when i stuck my finger in the hole to wipe it out.
Cant describe that without it sounding rude ;D

No. It sits just above a timing disc fixed to the front of your crankshaft.
You must be feeling the disc.
You must also have long thin fingers. You're not related to 'Tunnie'
by any chance, are you? ;D

No but I used to know a Tunnie from school. Dunno about thin fingers, got singed hands and arms though. bloomin hot down there next to the eggy :'(
