Title: Replacing Glovebox latch

Need to replace the latch on the glovebox, it is in 2 pieces.

Bought a nice shiny new one, only £6 from Vauxhall  :y

Bit of brute force and screwdriver jiggling got the last 1/2 out the glovebox, swapped the barrel over, spilling a few pins  >:(

New latch working fine, now how to install it in the car?

There are cutouts where it looks like it should slot, but I can't get the bugger in  >:(

Managed to break the new latch trying to install, ok maybe punching it in wasn't the best idea ever  >:( >:( >:( >:( >:(

Is there a technique I am missing, be a few days before the next new one arrives  ;D

Repaired my glove box latch a few months back but can not remember any problems in reassembly, having already found the fifth screw.

Is fitting the latch to the door or the box into the fascia, the problem?

latch into the door.

Not used any screws, looks like it should clip in with proper application of force / leverage  ;D

Maybe not a quick dirty fix after all :(

Have you tried holding in the locking tabs to the sides of the door when fitting the latch?

It might be easier to fit the latch with the doors inner liner removed.  Unfortunately I think this means removing the whole box first in order to remove the door and then it’s liner - hence the 5 screws.

thats roughly what i was trying, ill have another little go with the new one, if i cant wiggle it in its glovebox out time  >:(

Jimbob did mine around a year ago, I managed to get mine in without taking any panels or airbag off.
I got a long thin flat screwdriver, pushed the handle in one side so the tab went behind the cut out, then comes the difficult part (as you know) slide the thin screwdriver down the side and push the tab gently so it flips behind the cut out, a pain in the arse but treat it gentle like you would a women ;) ;D

Let us know how it goes, mines always been broken, never bothered to fix it yet.

I have taken photos as I went, with the intention of a how 2....

right up till i breaked it up  ;D

fyi - black latch 9105030, £6+ retail  :y

still intending doing it though  ;D

my first top tip will be have a key in the lock when removing the old barrel, this will stop you spilling levers and springs all over the shop  ;D
