Hi
Just done a paperclip test and I think it was 0034, can't find it anywhere though with a search. 10 flashes then 10 more, then 3 then 4.
EDIT: Solved this bit, just need to see if the parts terminally ill or soaked in oil.
Anyone care to elaborate?

but 34 is not listed have you checked it correctly
-
Yeah I checked there too.
Gonna video it and post it up now I think.

Actually I think in retrospect its 0340
P0340 Camshaft Sensor Incorrect Signal
hmm

Does this indicate a failure, or could it be coated in oil from my rocker cover?
-
Only one way to find out... Take it off and have a look. I bought my car with an array of fault codes and it turned out to be a dirty camshaft sensor. Make sure the sensor and it's mating faces are all clean and with any luck the code will disappear.
If not, then the sensor will probably need replaced. Has the timing belt been changed recently?
-
Yes cambelt kit done about 1k ago. Also the cam cover and gaskets have been replaced a week ago, as it had been leaking oil for quite some time - well over 3 months, because I've had it that long.
I didn't know anything about Omegas when I bought it, but its definitely been a bit neglected for its mileage (68k). I just ordered a new Siemens camshaft sensor to be on the safe side, it was only about 19 quid delivered from Vauxparts, should be here Monday/Tuesday. Reckon its easy enough for me to fit? How do you get to it, thru the engine bay?

0340 is cam sensor, and is prone to failure on 2.0/2.2
Genuine one does seem slightly more reliable than pattern

Cancel it if you can and buy a genuine one from your Vx dealer.

Why whats the difference, apart from a royal shafting on price from Grasmere? ;D
Sorry ignore that, just read the post above!!
I'll live with the pattern one for now, still trying to work out whether the cars viable with the amount of problems I've had with it thus far.
(reckon so)

Some of the pattern ones have been known to either not work at all, or fail even more prematurely than the genuine ones do. Cam sensors do seem to be very troublesome on the 2.0/2.2
-
Ah i see.
Well tell you wot hows about I clean this one out, cancel the other one and see what happens?
My car conked out 6 times in under a mile yesterday, its completely fooked. Every time I slowed down it just died, no power whatsoever.
EDIT: Could this solely be my camshaft sensor, or poss HT leads too?
-
if you are getting a 0340, then ecu ain't happy with cam sensor. Unlikely to be HT.
Vaux did release a bulletin about the cable routing, suggesting unpicking loom and moving away from alternator.
As to which sensor to buy, you pays your money and takes your choice....
-
Fair enough, that seems way out of my depth, I'll get someone else to do it I reckons (cable routing that is)!
So where do I find said camshaft sensor and is it easy to remove/clean?

cam cover off, ecotect strip off, you'll see it between cam spockets - plug is under ecotec strip.
Cleaning wont help :'(

Nice one cheers. Hope this bloody part comes tomorrow, gonna risk it, bet I end up buying another one though :-(
Fanx for all your help, and I'll follow up when she's purring.

Easy to change...
...it's the plug going into to the top of the spark plug cover.
If I remember rightly all you need to do is take the spark plug cover off and the drive belt. Timing belt cover off and you should be able to get at it. It's between the two cams (funnily enough).
As said before I'd try giving it a little clean first and see if there is any change otherwise buy genuine to avoid a false economy.

Too slow!!! ;D
-
Hiya, its being done now, not by me either - here's hoping! Getting the IACV/throttle body/breathers cleaned out too.
I'm a bit confused though - the sensor I got was Siemens, I thought Siemens were a good make for Omega parts, didn't think they were poor OEM bits? Obviously a bit late to back it, ordered Sat arrived Mon. My bad I suppose, but I'll learn from it.
Is it just that Siemens do *some* good parts, and others aren't worth trying?
Just for future reference.
