Title: Could my gearbox selector switch be to blame?
Post by: John Lewis on 10 June 2008, 20:55:37
Hi all

The autobox saga continues..

I cleaned the switch out the other day, and obviously its fooked, Chris has one on its way, but my mechanic reckons 'drive seems to be also catching reverse'. I know I didn't align the switch properly as my gearstick is lighting up like an xmas tree, but could this be the sole cause?

(BTW my mechanic is a mates dad who knows his stuff, and is WELL cheap!! Thank god. Just cleaned breathers, throttle body, IACV and done camshaft sensor for 25 quid, lol. Runs much better)

I'll be driving along, then all of a sudden bangbangbangbang when I press the accelerator. Next thing: Automatic gearbox' on the display.

It no longer slips out of gear around 37mph since I cleaned it, so I think its defo the switch, but anyone got any experience of this?

Ta in advance.

A faulty switch will cause weird results.  See what happens when replaced...
