Went to Marks last night and he stuck his AVO onto it.
By a process of elimination he discovered that the relay controlling the auxhilary socket was permantely on, drawing around 750ma.
Interestingly, only facelifts have this relay, and in a way, he killed two birds with one stone, as his facelift is experiencing similar problems.
Thanks a lot Mark :y

Or in this case.........one hell of a lot longer!

Father in law's Vectra occasionaly suffers similar, wondering if its related, off the top of your head do they have a similar setup?
-
There is a similar relay fed by a much larger multitimer setup.....but the cig lighter is not switched off it.

Yes, I discovered this after I could not understand why equipment such as mobile phone or satnav that I left plugged in (and hidden under the seat) seemed to be charging when I left the car, but was not fully charged by the time I returned a couple of hours later....
Anyway, good job you got it fixed.

Interesting.. Another failure mode to bear in mind. I wonder if this was only happening intermittently - because, IIRC, the standing current looked OK when AA got the meter on it.

You could be right, although it flattened a new battery after being left standing for a week.

Used the car extensively yesterday, it's been standing since about 4 pm yesterday, just been out to post a letter, battery was nearly flat :(
Now what, sticking relay has been removed.

Is it worth removing due to intermittent switch?

I reckon, overnight, it's drained at about 10ma per hour.

Is that the same relay that controls the 'puddle' lights in the doors as well? Coz on mine the door lights turn off after about 15mins also if i have the drivers door open........ :-/ just a thought :-/

No, the relay removed only controls the auxhilary socket in the back.
