Hi all, the other day I noticed my fuel computer was reading about 30 miles over what I would expect it to read for the anmount of fuel i have in the car... By about 30 miles i might add, as the fuel gauge needle passed thru empty it said I still had 33 miles left in petrol, I decided to test this out and finally ran out of pertrol with 7 miles remaining on the fuel computer..... I topped up with my emergenct 5 litre can and the needle registered about 3 litres on the gauge but the fuel computer still counted down and is now sitting on Zero. The average comsumption still works SO... what do you think may be wrong please
Cheers

Mine also ran out the other day, with 25 miles left on the MID
I had to call out my gramp to bring me a can, he loved me :D
Rule of thumb - fill it up when the red light comes on. Don't trust the MID in ultra low figures like that!

First thing – try not to run when on “red field”. Not that dangerous as in diesels, but still might do some damage in time (pump might suck some air).
Second – your computer calculates “Range” taking average consumption. If last one was ca 32 when on the run, it calculates that you can do 16 miles from remaining 0.5 gallon. By that time you have entered a town and doing 16MPG, and can only drive 8miles. Computer still thinks that your average consumption is 32.

thanks chalky, was just about to ask the very same question! cheers! mines seems to read exactly the same as yours, bout 30 when the fuel light flashes, (tried this on purpose to see how accurate it was).
