Hi everyone -
I have searched every forum and can't seem to find subjects to fit.
I have an 02 2.2 petrol with an LPG conversion.
5 months ago I had the head gasket changed.
the last coupe of days the temp gauge has been varying from 85 to 95 dependant on if the air con is on or if the heater is on ??
EG - no aircon / no heat - 85 ish
air con on / no heat - 95
air con with heat on (just to limit the temp) - 90
took it to a garage and they said that there was some air in the system !! (£25 quid please)
Anyone have any ideas?
Would appreciate any help (not techie at all but love the car 117k and climbing.

Doesn't sound like it's overheating to me. 92 is the normail temp. When it hits 95 the fans should kick in and the temp decreases back to the 92 mark.
If there is air in the system you could try running the car with expansion tank cap off for around 20 mins and that should get rid of the air.

thanks for that - I have read that the temp guage is inaccurate though - when i say running hot - its 'normal' reading is just above 85.
it has sat there no matter what, now it fluctuates.
is it normal for the temp to vary so much dependant on the heater / aircon etc?
after the whole head gasket going before I didn't want to take any risks

Unfortunately I'm not that greatly familiar with the 2.2 but on the 2.0 the temp sensor is at the back of the cylinder head, there is a possibility it's in the same area for your car. If the spade attatched to the sensor becomes loose or the wiring frays it can give unusual readings.
I'll put a picture below but as said this is for a 2.0 so wait for someone to confirm that they are in the same place. You should be feeling for a small disc with a spade connector attatched if it is the same.

I have a 2.2 cdx and that fluctuates between 85-95 more so over the last 3-4 days with the hotter weather, but as stated the fans cut in approx 95-97 and bring temp back down, also like yours varies with air-con on or off, would say that it is normal.

thanks - my only concern was that when it last touched 100 I had a new head gasket !!
was told never to let it get to there - now it seems this could be the upper end of 'normal' !?

Don't think you've got anything to worry about. As said by Jimmas the hot weather we've had recently may make a small difference. As long as the fans kick in and bring the temp down you should be fine.
Have you checked your coolant recently? Make sure it is topped up with water AND anti-freeze. If you are worrying about an air leak take the expansion cap off and run it for 20 mins and it should clear it.
