Title: Argh broken down

Hi guys, bit of help needed.

My 2.5 v6 broke down and ground to a halt last night. It just stuttered for a few seconds losing power then stopped. I have topped it up with petrol and it wont re start even though the battery seems to be quite strong.

I did the paperclip test and i got 49 Battery Voltage High thats all.

Any help greatly appreciated.

any power at all? lights coming on when ignition turned? ticking over?

Fuel pump relay/fuse OK? Sounds a bit fuel.

With no ecu codes to indicate otherwise, I agree.......

Take the cover off for the fuel pump in the boot.......get someone to crank it for a second and listen to the fuel pump.....you should be able to hear it if its running.........you may need to keep cranking for the fuel pump to keep running.......tho on my 2.2 a quick crank and fuel pump stays running for a bout 10 secs before it shuts off.

All the electrics seem to still be working and starter motor turns strongly.

That was strange, after sitting for 2 days it decided to start first time. Why would it just breakdown like that, not restart then work again later?

The fuel computer has been playing up so perhaps i did run out and the couple of litres i put in wasnt enough at the time for some reason? strage one  :-?

i had a similar intermitent fault last year and convinced myself it was the crank sensor so i changed it no no avail :-[, turned out to be a loose 'spade' connector onto the fuel pump should have cost pence to fix!

always check and double check the simplest things first - i was convinced i had fuel until a mate came round and cracked open the fuel line to manifold while i turned over and we had nothing :-[  (~NOTE cold engine :exclamation)

intermitent faults are the worse  -good luck  :y

If you are running the car near on empty. The fuel pick up pipe/filter could well have got clogged up with all the shit that usally acumilates  in the bottom of the tank, then the more you turn it over the more shit
is pulled. Topping up with fuel and leaving it for awhile allows the crap(if you are lucky as you were) to drop off. Good reason to stay above the red.
