Title: Firmware Updates
Post by: wingman on 09 June 2008, 16:10:10
As a newcomer to the forum I wasn't aware until reading various posts that the firmware in my meegas autobox, climate control etc could be upgraded to latest versions. I assume that this has to be done through Tech 2. As I have had my 3.2 elite since new in 2001 there are probably quite a few updates that could be beneficial.
I am also asuming that the Vauxhall stealers do not do this as part of their yearly service schedules without charging for a Tech 2 session in addition to the service? Does anyone know if they would just charge for one session to update all firmware?
Unfortunately there is noone near here that has the necessary to do a Tech 2 session so I am limited to going to the stealers!!

Some dealers might be prepared to do it for a charge, some may not. None will normally do it as part of their normal service.

I'd dread to think how much they would charge...

If you can find a sensible way of getting it done .. go for it ... TheBoy did mine at WIM last month .. it has turned a great car into a fantastic car ... I am really surprised at the difference, and because it seems to "lockup" in top at a lower rpm, and when being gentle with the right foot the changes seem to be earlier, I'm actually getting about 5-10% better fuel economy  :y :y :y

I paid for the gearbox firmware, and the others to be checked and updated....

I had quotes from £70+ to £35 to refusals at different dealers.

I paid the £35, and gearbox updated.....Nothing else was checked as Mark later updated everything else..

If you are going to pay a dealer, try a few, and also try to watch, I was refused :(

I would be interested to know if my Omega would benefit from firmware updates.  As I have an April '99 registered car, does that make it a mini facelift as I have steering wheel controls and HID headlights (I think).

Are there any updates available, if so what would they be?

Mark

If you have several updates in mind it might be worth a trip to either of our tech2 gurus, get it all sorted at once.

Bear in mind that not every stealership knows how to use the tech2 properly and think they are just code readers !!!!!

Varies, as a component, for example the prefacelift climate panel, has many hardware variations - some have updates, some don't.

If auto, I'd suggest that, and also a climate update.

TheBoy did the firmware updates on my 2001 car a year and a half ago.

There was no noticeable change with the ECU, Climate, etc, upgrades, though it is obviously best to have the latest versions.

However the auto gearbox upgrade made a massive difference... what is even more annoying is that a couple of months earlier I actually complained to the dealer during servicing that the autobox was clunky and asked them to look into it, they got back to me saying that they checked the fluid level and it was fine, and there was  nothing else they could do...

Anyway the autobox firmware upgrade to v9 (which I understand is available for mini-facelift vehicles i.e. from around 98 upwards) transformed the car, it was changing gears silky smooth and in my opinion a must have.

Its a shame u cant just send the ECU modules to be upgraded and sent back, but alot of aggro involved if it could be done that way i imagine.

i had mine done by The Boy about a month ago, made a huge difference to the running of the car.
had gearbox, climate and engine dome as well as a complete check over for any other issues.
One thing i would say take your car pass with you when you go :y

I can do some, gearbox is one I can't do yet, as can't get the tech2 to wake up gearbox ECU on my test rig...
