Hi all last night my girl freind was driving my 3L elite when the engine cut out & the warning light (engine symbol with lighting flash)came on she called the AA but while waiting for the AA about 20mins the engine started before it was turning over but not firing up so she carried on but allas the same thing happened again, called AA again & they said it was probably the crankshaft sensor? & we would have to take it to a main dealer to reset fault light?
The last thing i need is atrip to main dealer.
Can i do the job or could independant meccanics fix problem

You can do it ... guide in the maintenance section .. :) 30 minute job.
Once fixed the light will go away
Make sure you use a GENUINE Vx part as pattern ones are known to fail.
There are different types, you need to make sure you get the right one .. its all to do with the plug on the end ... lots of discussions of this dotted around the forums . :)

the fault light goes out when engine is cool i assume the fault code goes as well or does it store them?
it must be the lead which breaks down when hot & it must re make connection when cooled down

sorry to bore you all with old news but it is first time with paper clip test code 19 came up but on code list for 3L 19 means incorrect rpm does this mean crankcase sensor?

It means crank sensor poor signal.....which means its time to change the crank sensor

Yes, it means the cranksensor is not reporting expected info to ecu. If the ecu recieves no signal from it, it cuts the engine (its the only sensor on the V6 that causes the engine to cut cleanly, having not limp override value).
Its not uncommon for it to be heat related - engine warms up, car cuts, cools down, restarts, heats up, cuts etc - though this is by no means the only failure mode.
