Title: Head gasket, or more?
Post by: JamesV6CDX on 12 June 2008, 16:44:17
Surprise surprise, I've got another project to fix up.

It's a 2.0 16v Estate, went to have a look last night. We have never heard this car running.

Facts known, are:

1) Strong smell of petrol in header tank
2) Engine will not start, but seems to very nearly catch.
3) There is a spark on all 4 plugs
4) Compression test as follows

pot 2 - very poor (4 bar)
pot3 - even worse (2/3 bar)
Pot4 - good

Could be a head gasket failure then........head needs to come off anyway!

Yep, I suspected that, especially gone between two cylinders.

Now, Id love to get it back on the road this weekend, but I won't be able to get it skimmed that fast.

Rekon i'll need to skim?

LOL, I'm sure I got different - one of the middle pots very low, other 3 not too bad, but No 1 down a tad (which I put down to normal 2.0l wear on No1).

I swear I hadn't been drinking at tthat point ;D

Still, looks like a simple HG failure then, which is what I suspect from the second we tried to start it before towing it home. Had a brief moment of doubnt when we found water in plug wells...

And all I can say - you bastard, I had my eye on that one ;D

My Saturday BBQ in Luton is called off I think, due to weather.  Its only supposed to be light showers, but ho-hum.

Brackley Carnival is on Sat, so may go to that now.  If I start on Cider, I may be in a mucking fuddle  :-[

Hmmmmm, let me think about it, but the BBQ cancellation may open up a beer and curry opportunity  :-/
