Title: Whinning Noise
Post by: Chalkysuper7 on 14 June 2008, 12:58:53
I have a whinning noise from my engine when its running, it seems to be from the front of the engine somewhere, it increases in pitch as you rev the engine. Any ideas what it could be please ??

Thanks

need more details

Does it sound like a metal whining or more of a whistle. If it's a whistle I would suspect the secondary Air compressor thingy (the real name escapes me), it can be disconnected as it usually just throws extra air into the exhaust if memory serves until the exhaust/engine warms up.

If it's a really loud shrilling screech, then I would suspect a pulley wheel, which needs sorting pretty darn quick, if it throws a belt it could cause severe problems.

Sounds like it could be the a.c pully when, it freewheels when the a.c is off but locks up to the a.c compressor when switched on
