Hallo all, i noticed a wear a tear on my timing belt. Just bought a new one. do i have to change any other thing when i have this changed?
-
Are you sure you are talking about the timing belt and not the Auxiliary belt ??? You would only see a tear on the timing belt after taking off quite a few components .. including the timing belt covers !!
I'll not say more until which belt you are refering to is confirmed .. :)
-
Yes it is the timing belt.
-
If you are changing the belt you SHOULD have a full "belt kit" that includes the tensioners.. as it is these that fail ... you also MUST have the correct setup tools - The V6 Cam Locking Kit - .. it is IMPOSSIBLE to set the timing correctly without them, it is worth changing the waterpump while you have it stripped down.
The OOF shop sells a DVD with indepth instructions on how to do it
Think thats about it ......

Well then i would rather keep the old belt in place till i can get the tensioners ect ect
-
the other thing is, when was it last changed, 40000 miles tops or 4 years.

If there is any chance of failure I would not drive the car until you've got it sorted out. Otherwise failure could result in several thousand pounds worth of damage to the engine :o
