Hi Folks,
Didn't want to hijack the 2.5TD Thread...
I've noticed today that the temp gauge on my Omega sits at 90degrees.
Is this normal??
Coolant level is bang-on (I flushed it and put in a 50:50 mix of the pink antifreeze from Vauxhall back in Feb), and oil level is bang on too.
Cheers

Sounds ok to me mate. :y But, Im sure someone who knows what they are talking about will be along to give you some advice :y

I don't know what the "norm" is ... but my 3.2 sits at 80 most of the time solo, and 90 when towing.
Thats with the aircon ON ... turn it off and the temps go up by about 5 degrees.

My past 3 litres, and my current 2.5 have all hovered about the 85 - 90 mark. It is not a problem. :y :y

Phew, ta for that folks!
That 90degress is knocking about round town (without heater or aircon running) - on the motorway it does tend to drop down a bit, usually to about 85deg.
We're heading off round Europe in a few weeks in the Omega, so wanted to make sure it wasn't starting to play silly beggars! :y

The two Omegas I had (2.5 & 2.6), were sitting on 85 on motorways and going up-and-down between 85 and 100(!) in traffic. Some say that the 100 is too high (i.e. before the fans cut in), but I covered 100,000 miles between the two cars and never had a problem. Mind, I did change the coolant every year and used 50:50 Vx Red Anti-freeze...

I notice that you indicate you're all using 50:50 (or 1:1) mixture of Vx red. Is this with water?
My 3.2 is running 100% on Vx red stufff; is that OK?

nah you can't have ... .. you completly drained EVERY drop of water and replaced with 10 ltrs of antifreeze ?????
Or, you drained as much as you could, added 5 ltres of Antifreeze and topped up with water to give a 50/50 mixture ??? (thats the right way to do it .. ) :)

No.... the optimal cooling efficiency for antifreeze is when it is mixed in a ratio of 1/3 water and around 2/3 anti-freeze. Above that, the cooling properties of the liquid are going down. However a slightly lower ratio of 50:50 is generally recommended for use in engines.

I had a small amount of loss of fluid which I had been topping up with neat Vx redstuff. Probably 3/4 of a litre had gone in neat whilst topping up.
Then I had my HBV and water pump changed (By JamesV6CDX) and after this topped up the system with pretty much a whole 5 litres of neat Vx red stuff.
Have I done wrong? My car is running at about 90o
