Title: engine
Post by: omickega on 21 June 2008, 17:21:09
Hi all
Got a problem with my omega .  When I'm waiting at a junction, with break on, car starts bouncing (yes I've had the pump n' ride jokes from the kids).  I'm wondering if there's a quick fix or is it something more major like gearbox trouble?

Thanks
Mick

Is the Idle Revs eractic, when stationary and in Netrual?

Hi Zirk
Yes the revs go up and down, when in drive, and they are a bit higher(1000) than normal. a lot of the time engine cuts out if put in neutral.

Sounds like an air intake problem to me, check all your hoses for splits and air leaks.

Hi, its Zirk not Kirk, never mind Chris will do.

If its eratic in Netrual, then I'm thinking alonge the lines of the Idle control vavle, fairly common fault on 2.0l and an easy fix.

I'm sure theres a how to (clean it) on here somewhere, I try and find it.

Unless anyone else knows the link?

Chris.

Hi Mick,

Try this link, some of it refers to cleaning the ICV.

http://www.omegaowners.com/forum/YaBB.pl?num=1207387811

Its basicly held on with a couple of small bolts (allen or star type from memory) take it off and give it a good clean / spray. I used Halfords Switch Cleaner about £3 a can, its a cheap fix and a ggod place to start.

Also as said earleir check all your vacume hoses for tears or breaks.

Also clean the MAF sensor (its in between the Air Box and In Take Housing), while your there (use the spray), and any thing that looks cleanable including the intake Butterflys.

Its a 15 min job, dont worry if the engine over revs after youve dont it, it will sort its self out once all the cleaner has evaperated.

Chris.

PS. you dont have to take the valve apart, just take it off and a good clean.
