Title: Timing Belt - will it fit? Wrong one?
Post by: trebor on 22 June 2008, 13:24:16
I've got hold of a 2nd hand genuine timing belt kit, but don't think it will fit my V6.

Kit no. is 09201887.

The tensioner has 01 stamped in the middle, but is a different size to the one already fitted with EB.

Obviously can't use the tensioner, but can I use the belt still?

Its the same length but thicker than the one thats on there on already.  it has the numbers 0446091104 and GM 9128500  and 39.

Can I use this belt?

If it's not the same size as the original I would strongly advise to not use any of the kit.  Far too big a risk.  You know what the outcome will be if it is wrong!  :'(

:o That could prove very expensive. How much are 24 valves etc etc vs a 2nd hand belt?
Buy a new KIT! You know it makes sence! ;)  ;)  ;)

agreed, never a good idea to use a second hand kit, you have no idea how much life's left in it, or NOT left in it! :y

Swap the tensioner and idler over from the new plate to the oiginal plate......then use as normal.

Its only the back plate casting that changed, the idlers, tensioner and belt are the same.

no probs.   just very relieved now!  Can now put engine back together with new tensioners and belt :)

Though i noticed the cam timing marks were out on all 4 cams!  :o

So the last person to do it didnt use a locking kit!
