had my rocker gaskets renewed as you know a while ago and thats just fine, just been checking my oil and noticed a new oil leak, oil is gathering along the rim of the sump and looks like its dripping from the back of the engin area and when the car is hot i can smell hot oil that must be dripping on to the manifold, as you can feel the heat from under the car and thats when i can smell the hot oil. it not leaking mmuch but is there a common place around that area for an oil leak..
-
When the gaskets were done ...... was the breather system cleaned properly ???
If it wasn't your gaskets have gone again probably .. they act a bit like a safety valve if the breathers are blocked
:(
-
no i am sure its not coming from the rocker gaskets, as ther is no oils around that sort of area, i cleaned the black thingy on the plenum my self
-
Suggest you check the oil pressure relief valve, or more precisely, get someone to check the actual oil pressure that the relief valve is operating at.
-
i had a oil leak from the rear of mine too but the cover gaskets were shot so ive just replaced them.plug sockets were full of oil and it was defo running down the rear.i have still got an odd drip from the rear sump area but am going to clean the block and sump area just to prove its not just residual lying around.ive checked out the cam covers and there doesnt apear any leaks.i also cleaned out all the breather pipes and blew through them to make sure they were clear.hardly any gunge in the pipes at all.
:yill post if i find anything.
ps wheres the pressure relief valve?

:-[ :-[ :-[ :-[
just checked the middle plug pot, its FULL of effing oil, it DPOES look like its the rocker gaskets again, would it likely be both sides or just the one, what are the chances the rocker cover is cracked, (can it be sealed.) also i assume the breathers pipes are the black thingy on the plenum, if so then i cleaned thast out a week or two before the gaskets was done, could it have simply gone again. :-/ :-/ :-/
-
Have a read in the guides section, breather cleaning is quite a bit more than just the "black thingy on the plenum" !!!
Still only takes an hour or so to do the whole thing properly, but you'll need to redo the cam cover gasket, at least on that side, so I'd allow most of a day to do both jobs.
Its also possible that you didn't quite get the first gaskets right... did you follow the gasket guide EXACTLY.. especially regarding the black sealant ??
:(

As Entwood says, you have cleaned part of the breather system but not all of it.

i didnt do it myself, i am not too confident when getting so technical, i got a mobile mechy to do it, i put my faith in him last time, just syringed the mid pot out gonna see how long it takes to fill up again.
-
As a matter of interest ... is it the drivers side mid-pot or the passenger side ???
When I did mine I "cut a corner" and didn't remove the cable tray on the passenger side .. bad mistake ... it made fitting the passenger side cover awkward and I obviously didn't quite seat it properly .. so it leaked .. and I had to redo the whole job .. ( I know .. do it once properly etc etc ) .. I'm wondering if your guy may (?) have done similar ??
Just cleaning out the pot may be a bad mistake ... if any other pots fill you risk wrecking plug leads/DIS etc etc .. could get very expensive if not fixed properly .. :(
-
its the drivers side, i have only cleaned the pot to see how fast it fills as the guy who did it is wanting to know.
-
why does he want to know that? Its leaking and needs changing (or at least resealing. Passenger side is more difficult to tell until you get the plenum off and can access the plugs on that side (or maybe possible if you shift the cable tray a bit :-/)
Did he use original seals? Anything other than original are suspect (I can vouch for that :-[)
What torque did he do the camcover bolts up to? If he can't answer that, them he for sure over tightened them which could lead to the cover distorting. The location of the sealant is also quite important.

OK, i have an update, took the car to the guy who did the job, seemed uninterested in the problem, i now know he did not clean the breather pipes out as he did not know where they were. am i safe to assume that it is his responsibility to sort this, i dont mind buying a new gasket set but i am a not willing to pay him to do a job he should have done correctly in the first place.
The other gasket that was fitted was wongawonga make, i asume that i am better off in the long run getting vaux original. could it be that the wonga wonga was crap in the first place and thats why it blown along with the breathers not being cleaned.
i found this on ebay, vauxhall confirm its the right part number.

has any one bought from this seller, feedback is good. :-/

Its a bit of both I'm afraid .. pattern gaskets hardly last ant time at all, even with the breathers cleaned .... Proper Vx gaskets won't last if the breathers aren't done ... so its a poor job all round.
Solution is to do it yourself, properly. Its not difficult and the first time I did it, it took about a day .. simply 'cos I was taking so much care.
I printed all the guides out and followed them religously (except for the cable tray bit and I won't make that mistake again !!)
VX gaskets, black sealant, breather system clean is the only solution I'm afraid.
