Title: Head Light Washer Broke?
Post by: HerefordElite on 22 June 2008, 11:31:46
Fixing up front end of my mig at moment and putting the washer bottle back in i thought i'd test the headlight washers.

o/s works fine spraying foam all over my garage but nothing comes out of n/s.

Unclipped hose and there is high pressure water to the back of nozzle but nought coming out?

Unbolted nozzle from headlight bracket and put garden hose on it which pushes the nozzle out but still no water?

Seems like a sealed unit so is it FUBAR or is there a simple cleaning procedure, assuming it's blocked ?

cheers guys  :y

I've yet to find a way to fix them, and they are £55 from dealer.

i might get my wife to stick them in the ultrasonic bath at work (she a dental nurse) ;)

Worth a go, the nozzles can be removed from the housing with care.

not sure if it's the 'jets' aren't they what directs the spray onto the headlight?
i'm talking about the actual piece that's on a bracket under the headlight unit and extends ::) out (MY97)

I think what causes it is insufficient screen wash concentration - mine have always failed shortly after I've had the block gauze in the windscreen washer filter.  With almost neat water, you tend to get a white stringy thing grow in the bottle.

I alwasy use at least a 25% mix now, and haven't had to clean the gauze or replace a headlight washer extender bit for around 3yrs.

If itts the stuff like what blocks the gauze, disassembly is only way you'll clear it.

My nearside windscreen washer was impassible to water when I discovered the old white goo in the tank. After filling up with a nice concentrated screenwash mix it just unblocked itself after a day.  It seems the screenwash dissolves this stuff quite easily.

Is it worth leaving it soak in some neat screenwash?
