Is it just mine or are these cars pigs out of the hole??
I love my little 98 Cat but in the take off it is more of a slip out than a jack rabbit, hell my wife's Toyota with a 1.6 jumps out faster and beats me by ½ a car before I can start to catch her.
Peeling rubber seems impossible.
I though my cams might be a touch advance but my mechanic said no way, off by even one tooth and the computer makes a fuss.
If this is common how/can I do any thing to fix it?
Also do these cars run the same ECM over seas?? And can I swap one and get more performance and gas mileage over these sticking US Tunes?

0-60 should be around 8 seconds....
check if you have an air leak, or your multi rams are working properly :y
-
Do you have an engine management light on?
Does the engine management light up if you put the ignition to position 2? If it doesn't the engine management light has been removed. The car sounds like it is in LOS (Limited Operation Strategy) mode.

What engine options do you have in the States. 4 pot, V6. 2.0. 2.5 or 3.0. which one is yours? Auto or manual? Petrol or diesel?
0-60 mph with approx 1600 kg od motor car?
Heavy car to get moving, but once moving the overtaking speeds and crusing speeds shock a lot of people as they do it so effortlesly.
Sport mode and turning the TC off can have some interesting results in the tyre shredding department, allthough it does depend on tyres, road serface and weather conditions.
Hope this helps, as we find out more about tour car the more we can compare notes and help identfify problems. :y

Cam timing can be 2 - 3 teeth out (then valve damage!), and engine ecu won't complain.
Is it the autobox slipping?

I think the Catera has less BHP the the Omega due to emission control, but I could be wrong.

I'm not really surprised as the meega is never quick off the line: not meant to be, cannot be given its weight... as someone else has said, where it excels is mid range to top end acceleration/speed. sort of struck me really cos i was overtaken on the M5 last night by a rather old meega - he/she must have bee doing 130 plus at the time

Lizzie Zoom, perhaps!!! ;D

IME, it takes a lot of effort to get the car moving, but the midrange is astonishing... it is a big heavy car.

I do not know what you asking...
it does have a sport setting..
Oh are you asking about the check engine light?? All is good no faults.
How can I check for LOS?

Seems to help some but still no neck snapper...]

Runs up to 6500 right smartly after it kicks in the open plemmium at 4000.
I just was shocked to drive the little Toyola and have it snap my neck at every take off.

No! It was NOT me, I was nowhere near the M5!!

I don't know Rich what Toyota your wife has in the States, but up to recently I had a 19 year, 250K, old Carina II Estate with a 1.6 carburetted engine (4AF) which used to take off far quicker than my current Omega and indeed the 3 ltr I had before. :(
As has been stated our GM cars (Omega's in our case) are heavy and take a lot to wind up to a descent speed from standstill, but once moving they can then show their metal and cruise along at speed all day long or until the tank runs dry! :y With USA speed limits I have found that all you need is a car that cruises effortlessly and has all the refinements on it. :D
I know a 5.5 ltr Ford Crown Prince Victoria that we hired in Colorado was so slow, but once you worked it up to the State speed limit it was the best cruiser I have ever driven and the level of toys on it I have never equalled in any other car! But fast it was not! :y :y
In all it is 'horses for courses' and I am sure you know already that heavy GM cars with low power to weight ratio's will never be fast at accelarating from '0', and certainly never outpace cars with lighter bodyshells and high performance engines. ;)
All the best ;) :y

The other thing to bear in mind is that an Omega is geared to reach 150 MPH. This means the gearing is quite tall and, especially on an auto, first gear is not conducive to getting off the line quick.

Agreed Kevin..
if there was a manual short ratio 6 instead of auto 4 the launch would be different even with that weight...But to transfer that power on road you need really wide and new tires..
-
Thanks guys at lease I no longer feel robbed.
Well here there seems to be no other rear end gear sets, do you have any taller gears and perhaps a possi type to boot, for is I jump in a taller gear set, a possi to get both tires a grabbing would be so nice.

My mv6 manual with a slipper is a lot better off the line than i was expecting. tc off, hold it at about 3-4000 revs, lift the clutch and floor it, slip it a little so all the weight shift over the back tyres first (1 sec st the most) and it flys virtually no wheelspin all the way through first! i don't do it very often though ::) but it does go quick! lol
That shift from 1st to 2nd is long though! i reckon u could get the 0-60 a few tenth lower with that shorter. anyone know how? :question

Just a thought but I just did the auto box fluid change on my 3ltr Elite and the take off has gone from nice to some what wicked I had a little play of the lights the other evening with a golf GTI and either I caught him napping or its a dam sight faster than it used to be to be honest sport mode and a large size 13 boot sent me into licence removal mode in a very short time as well as about 5 mpg on the display at which point sanity resumed and I behaved like the old fart I am but it was fun to see the look on his face ;D
regards to all

my 3.0l elite with tc off & sportsmode is like a slug of the line untill its rolling a bit on gets on cam shees off like a rocket and a big grin appers all on its own there is nothing wrong with it its just a big old lump of a car to get going + auto box doesent help ;D
