Title: Hiss noise when changing air direction?
Post by: BruceT on 26 June 2008, 20:38:42

Well, how weird!

Was driving in Asda car park and the front screen was misting up slightly.

The blowe fan speed was on 0 and the air direction was on face. I changed the air direction dial to the defroster vents and hissssssed at me like air was been released, its only quiet. I thought weird, ill try it again.
Same thing, whenever I go from air posistion from front blowers to the defroster ones it hisses.

Air leak?

Where should I look?

Check the face level vents are fully open or fully closed.  can make a similar noise if they are only open a slight crack.....

Mine does that too; in particular when I switch from re-circ to fresh air intake (using the re-circ button).....I think it`s the sound of a vacuum servo being opened to atmosphere.....my previous aircon (non climate) Omega did it too.
Perfectly normal operation I thought. ;)

If its a continuous hiss then the vac pipe assembly may have come off the back of the direction controls (can be disturbed when radios are hand fistedly fitted!).

A short hiss is down to the vac bing released at the back of the selector switch and is perfectly normal.

Its only short, like a mini dump valve!

Glad its normal!

Post Hijack alert!

I am unable to get any air through to my face vents and found that it is a vacuum hose missing off the back of the position selector. Probably yanked off when the hands free kit was removed before I bought the car. I am unable to retrieve it through the back of the dash and when I took the glovebox out to try to find the other end, I was greeted with a mass of pipes and wires.
Does anyone know where the other end of the facial selector hose goes and what / where should I be looking. Then I could just run a new length of hose and get it sorted.

Thanks
Mike
