Title: noisy plastic type vibration(any ideas??)
Post by: BIGHUCK on 02 July 2008, 16:21:13
i,ve just had a new timing belt and pulleys etc put on my 2.0 16v, and now i,ve got a really annoying vibrating plastic noise coming from the same area when the revs go up during driving, its one of those noises that when you have the bonnet up it could be coming from anywhere?is there any type of rubber washers or the like behind the cambelt cover, that the garage might have left off ??help its driving me nuts!!! :-/ :-/

I would take it back to the garage and tell them to sort it.

Well if there wasnt a problem before it went in, and the noise is from the area where they worked, then just hoped they tightend it all up properly.

Could be the cable tray or the screws holding the cambelt cover on are loose.

But I'm with the others - get it back to the garage.

take it back-  it could be nothing other than a loose bit of plastic cover but it could be something like the cover not fitted properly rubbing on the belt or a duff tensioner in the new kit just waiting to fail.

Having said this my new belt was pretty noisey until it settled in and this was a new VX kit and the tensioners are all fine.  I't gone quiet now

I'd agree ,take it back to the garage that did it. If it wasn't there before get them to check it out and confirm , in writing if you can get them to , that all is OK.
One thing I'd say though is that on my 2.0 there is and always has been a whirring noise ( not a vibration ) when driving .It is engine speed related but has been there through two cam belt changes ( genuine VX belts and pulleys and pump )now.
It's audible when listening with the window down but never to a point where it seems like a fault. I've checked it all over in the 5 years I've had the car but never found anything amiss.
Can I be forward and ask what you paid for your belt replacement ?

Don
