Not read a guide .. but it goes like this..
Position something to catch oil, undo fill bolt, some oil drains out, misses container. Clear up mess
Use something to syphon/drain as much oil from the sump via the fill hole as possible. Clear up mess
Loosen all the bolts holding the large sump on, then remove all but 4. Try and support the sump whilst removing the last 4, fail miserably and spill vast amounts of ATF all over self and drive. Clear up mess
Do the same for the small sump. Clear up mess
Clean the surfaces of both sumps and corresponding areas of gearbox of all traces of old gaskets whilst being dripped on by ATF from gearbox. Clear up mess
Remove filter and discover it holds about 1/2 ltr ATF. Clear up mess
Fit new filter, replace both gaskets and sumps. refer to

on how to correctly refill gearbox.
Once car is runing properly, move from drive. Clear up mess
Use powerwasher/path cleaner/ swear words and fail to remove stains from drive. Throw all clothes in the bin. Stand in shower for 45 minutes with full bottle of washing up liquid in an attempt to remove ATF from hair, fail miserably.
Give up and get cold beer from fridge. Get large amount of static in ears from SWMBO.
Return to bathroom. Clear up mess

Very, but the results are worth while.Gig my few weeks ago and you can hardly feel the gears changing even when driving hard, and thats from a 10 year old gearbox.
I covered the entire area with several old dust shets which were layed on a tarpaulin so when I had finished just rolled the lot up and binned it,but you will get some on you so beware.
Best of luck, but you will be impressed with the results.

What oil did you use?
-
Only use "Dexron 3", not Dexron 2 which most Vauxhall dealers will try to sell you, look under the "Oilman".

Oh, yes. It's polish. If they will demand more than "few" beers to bribe them, let me know and I will translate it for you.
I hope that photos will help to understand how this should be done.
If any questions - please ask.

LMFAO ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D
have you ever seen the ending of the film "Carrie" very similar to changing ATF ::)
-
I would just add:
"Burn your clothes afterwards, or SWMBO will kill you, or you won’t have any sex for next few years. If you won’t do it straight after finishing this job, she will be sure, she can smell it for the next few months - even if you cleared the mess next day" ;)

My hair was about grade2 when I did mine at Telford....
7 Washes to get it clear(ish)!
Dust / Sand / ATF a lovely combination!

Fairy Washing Liquid is a good point to start...but clothes still stinks after 3 washes.

Entwood You missed a bit in your excellent real life guide.
" Have a careful look through the old oil for remnants of thrust washer. If you don't find one get cold beer from fridge. If you do find one get two"
