Title: rear windows sticking
Post by: feeutfo on 07 July 2008, 00:17:13
having trouble getting rear windows to close reliably, they keep stopping 3 inchs from the top and dropping down again, they seem to catch inside the rubber on the wheel arch side and a bit of play/rocking on the b pillar edge. Both sides the same, as is mates 2 litre. Both facelifts. Anybody had this problem? Ta.

I occasionally get that problem. To close them I edge the window up the last few inches. I then open the window and repeat the procedure until the windows close completely in one movement. Usually sorts it out for a while.

A small amount of silicone spray sometimes helps ... the fact that the windows go back down is part of the safety system and means the windows "think" there is an obstruction, so probably "stiction" on the runners .. bit of lubrication needed ??

as entwood said :y , few squirts of silicone sorted mine, done all 4 windows in the end, saves taking the door trim apart.

I would not recommend silicon spray as its a wet lube, a dry lube such as PTFE spray is more suitable.

Chris, check the rubber seals in the door frame thay may be being pushed up by the window and causing it to 'bounce' back. Mine used to do that then checked the rubber seals, sorted that out and its been fine since.
