Crank sensor at a guess.
Have you read the codes?
-
Haines said no codes but reading this forum does suggest c/sensor
-
Sounds very much like the crank sensor.
Very common failure.
Car turns over just fine but doesn't fire at all. Then sometime later just starts as if nothing happened at all....
-
Have you tried paperclipping it and checking for codes yourself ?? Especially when it won't start ??

sounds exactly like crank sensor.
Easy, EASY fix!
-
crack sensor. as above
-
Agreed crank sensor
-
yep. Had one go on previous car, was told it will take about a week to stop working altogether, changed it before it got that far so can not verify that. :y

Hi all, I now have a similar problem (99 2.5v6), intermittent starting. No fault codes beyond the usual, no flashing from Eng Mgmnt light. Car just turns but no firing. :-[
I have had this before, when I removed the crank sensor and cleaned (it being covered in oil), but never been able to prove where the fault lies!!! >:(
Any advice greatfully received (note: I have: replaced cam cover seals, recently replaced coil pack and HT leads, plugs etc), also changed crank sensor about 3yrs ago.
Thoughts?? Crank sensor again? Imobiliser? Fuel pump relay???
Cheers

Crank sensor - usually but not always brings up a code.
-
Paperclip it .. see post #4 ... if it has a code 19 .. crank sensor is on its way out :)
This can be a "stored" code .. not an active one .. only active codes give an EML light
-
Sounds like a crank sensor breaking down.
-
both crank sensors deffo !! :y
-
Note that you only tend to get the 19 fault codes on pre-facelift cars. My year 2000 car definitely had a bad crank sensor - problem completely disappeared when it was changed - but never showed any fault codes.

Oh and a crank sensor is about £50 and takes about 30 mins to fit if you know how. If not you'll spend a while finding the right connector.....
