Post by: vrba on 28 July 2008, 20:56:01
if i remember here somewhere was a post with all engines sorted by years was released. so can anyone pleas write something about engines or if anyone know where is that topic. i searched it but can't find it. the main thing that im asking this is because of specific engine, it's the 8v one. think that this engine was bad and replaced with 16v.

The 8v was the base spec engine; basically the same as the one fitted in Mk2/3 Cavaliers, Carltons, Astras, etc.  They eat camshafts, but not a bad lump...whats up?

I have a Parkers guide here from 2002. There was what appears to be a base model Omega 2.0i Edition S from '94L to '95M, which had the 115 bhp 8v engine, and no electric sunroof (presumably manual).

I don't know my Omegas, so can't comment really except to say that according to the guide, the 8v was slower and less economical than the 2.0 16v, as you'd expect.

was not replaced by 16v but for some time was the basic option a step lower than 16V, in many markets sold only to fleets. even the 16v 2.0l strugles with the weight of omega, let alone this engine. i think (but dont quote me on this) that it has been discontinued from mini-facelift (1998)

I don't think the Ecotec 16V (X20XEV) was quite ready for the omega launch (appeared in late M but mainly N reg Cavaliers before being plonked in the Vectra), was fitted to entry level Omega's of the time which I believe were badged as 'Reflection'.
