Post by: gsdtrainer on 28 July 2008, 22:27:14
hi,chaps and chappesses, just a couple of questions on the upgrade.does it make any difference to the fuel consumption and has anyone had it done and it didn't make any difference or made it worse.will be phoning round tomorrow to get prices in s.wales.thanks,terry

Didn't make any difference to the fuel consumption on mine but in terms of driveability the progression through the gears feels a lot smoother. To me it feels as though the box is less stressed under load which probably helps as they do have their weak points namely the Thrust washer.

Are you referring to the software upgrade?

TB did mine at the WIM meet, and I promise you it makes a world of a difference to the smoothness of the gear change.  To soon to know on economy though.

Why not pop along to the Newent meet where i'm sure one of the Tech II people on here will be attending?

Will be cheaper than VX i'm sure!

I guess I've been running the update longer than probably anyone else here....

When I eventually did my MV6, fuel economy dropped :o - this was due to the fact I work in Milton Keynes (roundabout city), it was a wet October, and the update allowed me to have more fun with TC off around all the roundabouts ::).  Shagged the rear tyres pretty quickly as well ::)

Seriously, after the initial idiotting around, it made no difference whatsoever to economy, no better, no worse.

Advantages - even smoother changes, more 'solid' drive out of corners etc.

Disadvantages - won't overcome mechanical issues with the box, so if you have a rough change, the box needs servicing.
