Title: Repalcing rear shocks
Post by: RolandL on 29 July 2008, 11:38:54
Omega due for MOT on Thurs, having a look around underneath noticed rear shocks are weeping a little.  Have rung VX and been quoted £105 +vat each (self leveling)  Can anyone recommend an alternative supplier that offers better value.

Am ok with replacing the shocks, however when self leveling device is reconnected is there anything I would need to do to ensue it works correctly.

Roland

PS just had a phone call for local motor factors and they have quoted £45+vat each !!!!   they say as far as they are aware they are self leveling. (none in shop at pres to check).

at short notice you're better finding someone local with a trade card but it takes 2 days for the parts to come in, i just got mine this morning cos mine failed on a shock, retest on thursday, trade price £77.71 inc. vat for the same item you're after if you get a card

I'm with Danny on this. I tried to find an alternative supplier for a direct replacement and couldn't find anyone that produces the same item with the air adjustable ride height. Other non standard variants are much cheaper as you found but do not work on the same principle. I seem to recall they are made by Sachs. Might be worth trying Autovaux and seeing if they can source them. They deliver next day if in stock and allegedly give discount to OOF members (seen 5 - 10% mentioned).

Hi Danny,

that's interesting I asked them if the £105 was trade and they said it was (I do have a trade card)  Me thinks I will ring them again  :y

Not sure if the shocks will fail or not, my MOT tester is excellant guy if borderline may pass on advisory, will wait and see.

Thanks for the quick reply

there's 'trade' prices and there's 'Trade Club' prices. They are different.

Considering you haven't got alot of time left, i'll give this thread a little bump. Sounds like you need someone local with a trade card to help you with your purchase. £45+vat is most likely not far away from genuine vauxhall trade price.

*Edit* sorry all mentioned before, got sidetracked...will get me coat  :-[

Local VX dealer quoted me £68 + VAT each for standard Estate shocks with 2-3 day delivery on Saturday
Pse recommend a cheaper supplier (I'm not precious about genuine VX as long as they're reliable)

i complained to trade club thursday and they contacted my local VX, but i went in friday and got it sorted, but then the boss at VX roasted all his staff :y
