Title: help! immobilser i think

had car since saturday afternoon (1998 2.5td) manufacturers alarm and immobiliser fitted. only got 1 key and that is inoperative. has been o.k just using key manually for more than 20 times since saturday. and now wont start. ignition system operates as normal butno action from starter motor. ihave to wait for a pass for a pin in order to have keys done but cant have a pin until my log book comes. is it normal for the car to have been running without key fob

the imobilser isolates the fuel injection system not the starter and if its playing silly beggars the EML flashes when turning the engine over!

is the starter motor not engaging then? try hitting it with a hammer if it is sounds like a duff starter motor

just finished sorting it out. it was starter motor. robbed the one off my old 1994 miggy. it was a nightmare.  >:(the part that p***ed me off was the location pin stuck in rubbish starter motor and other stuck in  bell housing of 1994 car >:(.had to get it done though as going out tommorrow. suppose i'd have been better off changing number plates and tax disc to old car cos they look alike ;D

thanks tmx you got it right :y. i just noticed you got a rover p6 3500(nice v8) takes me back to when i was about 7 yr old, i got really upset when dad got rid of his.
