Looked today under bonnet and found that the right hand cover is leaking at the rear... Also went through the HowTo, but started to wonder is it really necessary to remove the plenum? Seems that there is enough room for covers to come off without taking the plenum off (a job I'm afraid to do :-[ ) Can someone confirm am I right or wrong? 2,5 plenum seems different and that seems understandable to remove but do I need to take it off on a 2,6?

ok... and also the intake manifold? How high would you have to raise the cam cover to take it off?

It all needs to come off mate...
You wont beable to lift the cover up and over the cam shafts!

Problem is that you need to put the covers down square onto the heads so everything needs to be out of the way.
If you try and slide the covers across you are highly likely to get some of the sealant where it isn't meant to be.

I understand that first time removing the plenum is intimidating, but actually its pretty easy, its just a fair few things to undo.
I took the approach of printing out the guide and ticking off each bit as I went along, also took loads of pics , and ticked them off in another colour when I put it back together.
The only problem I had was disconnecting the throttle cable but I suspect you dont have this..
Also note/photo the order of the breather hoses that connect to the back of the Ecotec plastic bit.

And you will also have to remove the CPP (Coil per Plug units)
If they are tight to pull out, where the fixing bolts are, the brass inserts are threaded 8mm inside the hole.
Either screw in a couple of bolts to give you something to get hold of, or if you have some long 8mm set bolts, you can use to jack the units out.
It's also easier to remove all the cables in the tray that covers the plugs on LH side and move them out of the way by tying up to a bonnet strut. Also, if you spray some WD 40 or similar on all the plastic "click in" fixings on the tray, you stand a better chance of them not breaking while you are trying to release them!!
Another tip, when all cleaned up and ready to refit the covers, a very small "dab" of the black sealant in about four places in the groove where the seals fits in the cam covers holds them nicely while you are lining them up over the cylinder head.

What is the secret black sealant used? Is any similar available with some brand mark (loctite etc)?

One more related to this: I'm due for a cam belt change, and this will be done by Opel-shop. I think plenum will come off during cambelt show?
So, what would you do: give the boys the money to change also the cam cover gaskets during the cambelt change or DIY the gaskets?
