Title: Car cuts out?
Post by: VX1 on 06 August 2008, 11:15:19
Got an omega S reg. Done a service a coupe of weeks ago runs perfect but just a couple of das ago it started to cut out. Now it only cuts out when its put into neutral, in drive, idling, it idles fine but when in neutral it cuts out.

I am thinking that the IACV is starting to play up, the breather hoses are all new. Any suggestions?
The car is a 2.0ltr auto Estate 'S' reg

I would do a paperclip test first, see if there any codes stored ;)

You beat me to it, could be several things, A code 19 may narrow it down to Crank sensor for instance

Car is a 2.0 litre more likely to be a camsensor.

You aint wrong missed that bit.

Could be as simple as needing a new air or fuel filter.

Does it cut out EVERY time you put it in neutral or intermittantly?

Paul,

I used to have a 2.0 and these problems are pretty common.
There is a guide (very good one) on cleaning up the throttle body/ICV etc.  Worth going through that.  Its dead easy and the car will drive like a new'un afterwards.

No harm in a paperclip test as the others said.

Cheers
Ian

Yep definitely a good idea to clean the ICV, throttle body and breathers along with checking the air filter.  Could be an easy and cheap fix.  Still do the paperclip test though and post back results.  You will find the paperclip test guide in the maintenance section.

As said in the post the car has had a service and the breathers have been replaced so they are new. The IACV and throttle body will be cleaned and a paperclip test will be done either today or at the weekend. Thanks for the replies.

When was the last time the fuel filter was changed?
