Title: need help car not starting
Post by: rikki_essex on 04 August 2008, 12:34:24
just wondered if any one could shed some light on my little promblem. a couple of weeks ago my car was parked on a slight incline with the front end pointing  down the hill and i had some trouble starting it there was still about a 1/4 of a tank of juice. and then again on friday night when the misses decided that it would be a good idea to stop for a kebab on the way home. and again it was parked on a incline and wouldnt start at all. so i pushed the car into a space a got a taxi home and when i went back in the morning it was fine and started first time. any ideas????

Check for stored fault codes, wondering if there is a 0335 in there somewhere....

To read the stored engine mgmt codes on a 2.6, check out the thread 'Paperclip Test' in Maintenence Guides, but rather than use paperclip, press both brake and accelerator, and turn ign on.

right just done this and how do you make sense off the flashes

Count the number of flashes.  There will be a pause between each sequence of flashes.

For example if it flashes 10 times, then a pause, then 3 times, pause, 3 times, pause, 5 times pause your code would be 0335.  Count 10 flashes as a zero.

Report back the codes.

As first thought.  Crank sensor needs changing.  Only buy a genuine Vauxhall part.

£37 + VAT trade.

Use the guide in Maintenence guides, take about 30m - 1hr.

Its giving you a warning that it will eventually fail when you least expect it.  Its no fun when it completely gives up the ghost.

go to vauxhall, give them the reg. Or chasis no. if they
need it. Get a price, they will print it out on an invoice
To be paid. It will have the no. on there. If you must,
you can shop around but i would just get it done
asap if i where you.

Or just ring them.

When I did mine there was only a few quid in it between the genuine part from a VX dealer on TC and the cheapest on Ebay. Given the risk of it stranding you I'd just get one from the stealers.

As far as i'm aware there are two types of connector (someone may be along in the minute and say different), check at the back of the engine under the scuttle and look at the connector - it will either be a oval or square.  oval one seems to be cheaper.  do you have tc card - if not i can assist. :y

right just had the crank sensor changed it was the right part thankfully and it was only £30 quid. just one more question is the fault 0335 stored on the system because i just done the paperclip test again and its still showing the fault.

It will stay stored for 'X' number of clean starts.
I say 'X' because some folk say 20 starts and others differ.

Mine took 2 months  :(  before it cleared from memory, even though
the fault was cleared and no EML light on.

If you don't get the problem and the EML stays off, don't worry about it.
