I dont have this problem but have before once and wondered what the likely causes are apart from leaking HBV...what other water components are round the back of the engine?

From what I have read and experienced myself it is 98% of the time the HBV! Apart from that I suppose the HBV hoses around there can eventually split/perish. Not much else can go wrong at the back; well apart from HG failure! :'(

the engine leans back at an angle so leaks in the v run back to the bell housing ie coolant cover plate t/stat housing. Other than that there is the metal coolant pipe exiting the oil cooler bath at the back of the v/engine the seal to the block can weep and corrosion round the join of the piggy back pipe on it to hbv too, core plugs on the back of the cylinder head can leak often on the dis pack. Apart from that its pretty water tight really.

hbv, coolant bridge, oil cooler, stat, coolant transfer pipe, other associated pipework, core plug, HG.
