Hi Guys
Right as per usual life cannot be simple. Got all the jobs done on the car ready for holiday tomorrow. Looked under the car and its leaking oil.
After further looking at it. It seems to be dripping on the front under tray and you can see it collecting there. It seems to be coming from the top of the oil sump. Cant see anything up high and cant smell anything burning. Doesnt seem to be leaking from the back of the engine at all. Just little bits dropping off the tray onto the sump.
No water in the oil and vise versa.
Its a 2.5 V6 Auto
Hope you lot can help! :-/

What do you drive - update your profile.
-
sorry my fault.
Its a P Reg CDX 2.5 V6 Auto :)
-
As above what do you drive, you said you got all the jobs on car done, did this include oil change, possible filter leak, also was the oil leak there before you carried out todays jobs on car.
-
oops sorry you did mention it was a 2.5 v6 in your first post.
-
Sorry guys. Just very tired so bear with me.
Nothing engine wise.. so i have no idea what it could be.. Its a 2.5 V6 and seems to be coming from the front lower part of the engine dripping onto the front undertray
-
difficult to say, possible damaged oil filter, crankshaft seal, possible oil pressure swith leaking.
-
Could be sump gasket or crank seal - have u tried taking undertray off to pinpoint the leak?
-
yea. When i open the oil filler cap its feels like its pressurised when i open it could this be anything?
-
possible blocked breathers, causing cam covers to leak. and run down and drip onto under tray
-
I havent had a good chance as its dark now and i go on holiday tomorrow. Would removing the cap from the oil or give it some holes to make it realise this pressure might help stop force the oil out?
I know its a bodge but im sick and tired of cars and havent got time till i leave tomorrow
-
Almost certain it'll be running down from r/h cam cover gasket behind timing belt cover... Agree with Jimmas re blocked breathers.
-
im gonna get some oil stop leak as il change the oil when i get back and see whats casuing it. Will realising some of this pressure help stop the oil pissing out.
-
No whatever you do do not run it with oil cap of, it will blow oil all over engine bay, this will probally have been leaking for a period of time, you could possibly clean as much of oil of as you can see, but it will keep leaking untill breathers cleaned and gasket replaced, also a concern that the oil has leaked behind cam-belt cover and contaminated the actual cambelt, sorry but does need some imediate attention, I can only say it's a chance you take if taking on holiday, make sure you have break-down cover.
-
Oil stop leak will have no influance what so ever, would not reccomend using it.
-
its not coming from the top of the engine. I would have seen it from the covers and smelt it from the exhaust. It lower down. I dont mean run the engine with the cap off just drill a small hole in the cap to realease the pressure that the breathers arnt doing at the moment.
It hasnt been leaking for a period of time as it was completely no oil there yesterday. And has come on all of a sudden
-
if it's not the cam covers, then i can only think of a head leak, as not much else in that region could cause a leak
-
I am not sure were the oil pressure swithch is located in the block on the v6 but these can leak as far as i no, can you not jack up the front in the morning and have a quick look up from underneath and try and see were the oil starts from

Im sure there loads its can leak from? Front crankshaft oil seal i guess. Im going to drill a 6mm hole in the oil cap to allow it to realease some of the pressure build up. I think blocked breathers it very likely as it hadnt been serviced in a good 2 years.
-
breathers will be a good place to start, and cam cover gasket replacement, but clearly further investigation required when you get back from holiday, let us no how you got on.

update
after drilling the holes it doesnt leak as much now. but its defenatly still leaking the front tray is full of oil. im guess it cant be upto as you would smell it because of the amount of oil.
How much do people think it would cost to get the front crank seal done at a garage?
