Title: Trade Club Membership
Post by: addy on 11 August 2008, 21:21:09
I have seen many of the members on here mention Trade Club Membership, can anyone explain what is needed to get one?

Thanks

Join the Autobahnstormers club.
Its £20 and you will get a club trade card ;)

I was considering joining a VBOA club to get trade club membership just recently for a crank sensor, rocker gaskets, thermostat, coolant, brake fluid, plugs, various o-rings and seals for the breather clean job.  After all the messing about I found Autovaux' prices ranging from a little bit to significantly cheaper than trade club on everything!  If you include the £20 quid to join ABS or whoever it's even worse, so I went with autovaux and didn't bother with a club + trade club.

I must be missing something as I know well clued up people on here swear by trade club (??).  My advice would be to phone up your local VX and ask for trade club prices for the bits you're interested in, then compare with autovaux.

AUtovaux, despite their promises, tend to send out pattern parts at TC prices  >:(

Hmmmm oh dear.  Well hopefully that shouldn't matter for all but the dreaded rocker gaskets.  Hopefully they don't send me toffee ones :(.  Having said that I did them 2.5 years ago with gaskets from my trusted motor factor and they seem to be OK now even though I used black silicon instead of the proper sealant.  I'm only doing the job again cos I'm leaking slightly out of the o-rings, or rather where o-rings ought to be, but because I didn't know I needed any and needed the car finished I used more black silicon instead!  Surprised I got away with it for so long.  Hopefully autovaux's will at least be decent quality.

Arse, with that and my probably wrong crank sensor (see me other thread) I'm not doing to well at the moment :(.  Still shouldn't complain as this is the first time i've had to delve deep into the engine since I bought it 2.5 years ago.  Guess I'm a bit out of the parts scene!  Hopefully my £40 bosch leads are awesome - nearly had a heart attack when mr Vauxhall said £115+vat trade club.  Actually had a heart attack when he added 'per bank'!! :o

About a year ago, they were selling Elring cam cover gaskets as genuine (Elring make gaskets for GM, but better quality), but were shite.

for those who dont quite see the benefits of trade club, this is what you need to do:

join autobahnstormers and pay £20 (because i did, and paid by cheque, recieved my car just 2 days later before my cheque had cleared!)

be lucky or unlucky enough to need a significant part replacing, you'll instantly get a decent saving!! I had to get a rear shock for my car that would have cost me about £123ish at retail, it cost me £78, and instant £45 back!

so minus my membership fee, saved £25 on top

The first time you buy a box of oil, you'll have more than covered the cost of ABS membership, aroound £34 for 4 metric gallons. There is a lot more to the club though than just the Trade Club card.
