Title: I/R Keyfob programming?
Post by: Humpy on 12 August 2008, 09:22:41
Chaps,

I bought a brand new old stock Infra Red keyfob off of Ebay and tasked a mate where I work to see if he could get it programmed. He's an ex Vauxhall Tec so he knows what he's doing (?) and they've got Tech2 but he couldn't get the car to recognize the fob. He could talk to the car and such but the couldn't get the car to accept the fob.

Does this need an older version of Tech2 (Tech1???) as my car's a '95? He seemed to think that Tech2 was only for cars or around '97 onwards.

Any light on the subject would be appreciated :(

Tech2 cannot do IR fobs - but then if if 'knew what he was doing' he would of known that and not tried.

But being a Vx technician, I am not surprised...

So how do you do it then? :)

Found a quote on 'another' Forum which says you turn on the ignition and aim the new Keyfob at the IR receiver and press the button. The interior light should come on and the doors lock and unlock and that should be it. Forgive me for being cynical but is that all there really is to it?

Yep that really is as simple as it gets.

I did it with mine. replace the batteries first to be on the safe side.

While we're on the subject, what if I found an ECU with transponders and keyfob, from a '98 2.5 elite, could I stick it straight in and get the new keyfob working on my 95 Infra red cdx?

You are right - BUT - the bad news is that you can only programme your OWN fob that way, not one from another car.

Ahh I see, admittedly, they were my own keys.

Looks like i'll be giving the ecu and transponder a miss then. Thanks MM.
