i would like to get my 2.5 td cdx that little bit faster im unsure how and whats the best ive saw that people chip them does this work any sugestions gratful
-
Get yourself a good AR35 gearbox (the existing AR25 box will very soon die once you increase the torque), whack it on...and chip the engine...
I have 3 or 4 good AR35 boxes here if you want one for a decent price (£100)...job done!
-
Most of the chips, inc the one I have in mine, improve drivability and economy, and give a noticible boost in power.
If its an auto, it will shred the gearbox though - there is a reason Vx detuned it to 250Nm or torque...
-
As stated above, chipping the 2.5 diesel does shorten the life of the standard auto box, but if yours is a manual or you dont mind replacing the box with a 3.0 one when the existing one lets go, you will enjoy better performance and MPG :y
-
True you could continue to use your existing box until it dies which will apparently be pretty quickly once its chipped...but I would have the 3.0 box bought and ready...as it wont be long before you need it :) lol
-
And the chip provider I use is based in North Oxfordshire, and has maps for all the different TD ECU types.
Be aware, some of the later ones (late 427 and 428) may need sockets soldering in.

do the 3.0 box fit straight in also mines a manual

Need to use TC and bellhousing from the TD box, otherwise, straight swap
-
Failing all other suggestions, you could always get yourself a 3.2 MV6.....power by the bucket load! ::) ;)
-
well that was my other idea geta mv6 for the weekend and my 2.5 for the week but if the box is a straight swop then not sure any sugestions
-
Manual gearbox should be fine ;)
-
how much does a chip for a td cost?
mick
-
Couple on ebay from Germany...says the chip gives an increase of power from 130 to 160 bhp and 250 to 320 nm torque which if correct is not bad at all...
Most definitely an AR35 box needed at 320Nm as AR25 box is 250 max...I have 4 of them (soon to be 5) by the way if you need one too lol :)

I get mine from a guy in Oxfordshire, iirc £70 delivered.
If you want to contact him, rather than me post his contact details, PM me your mobile, and I'll get him to call you direct.

I got my chip through this chap and it is very good. Highly recommended in my experience.

Mine needs sockets, removed it last time this topic cropped up on the forum. Any chance of his contact details (PM) so I can get in touch.

can you fit these chips yourself
Yes, one big issue may be if your existing chip is socketed or soldered.
