My dad gave me a car cause im just hitting 17 and says if i fix it i can have it,

Its a Omega 2.0 1.6v It randomly cuts out, we checked the oil and water, it sounds a bit abnormal, manual petrol,

What are the symptoms of it cutting out? Have you got oil in the plug wells? are the leads ok? are the breathers bloked? Check the IACV (idle air control valve) make sure this is secured properly, this may need cleaning. There is a How to on here on how to clean the IACV. Where abouts are you? If its the head (which Idoubt very much) you would have oil in the water. You need to check the items above to see if they need replacement or cleaning, also do a paper clip test (there is a how to on here) and see if it brings up any fault codes, if there are then post on here and someone will be able to help you.

Have a read through the Maintenance Guides, there's a lot of simple stuff you can do yourself on 2.0's.

Sounds like the ICV and breathers need a good clean.

MAF failures on these are very rare (unless someone has put a chavved up air filter on).

When my brother bought his, same problems pretty much...

Did a service (oil, filter, plugs, leads), aswell as cleaned the ICV & EGR valve, and it sprang a whole new lease of life...

Are you losing any coolant/oil at all while driving??  What color is the coolant??  Service history of the car??

Also worth checking the timing gear is right if you say its down on power, could of had a dodgy garage fit it wrong (out by a tooth), or may need replacing anyway if its not been done in a while or there is no history of it being done (regardless of visibile belt inspection)

Blunty, have you considered how much  insurance will cost for a 17 year old driving a 2000 Omega?
