Title: Breather or vent on Differential ??
Post by: Big_Roger on 16 August 2008, 20:05:41
Hi,
I have just replaced the leaking pinnion oil seal on the differential unit.

I am puzzled why it should have been leaking quite so bad, and wondered if there was a small air / pressure relief vent  that is blocked.
While I was doing the job I looked as best I could, and felt around over the top of the unit, but couldn't find anything.

I know that when I had the diff off of my Senator, there was a small plastic breather/vent about the size of a 6mm bolt head on that.

Does anyone know if there is a breather/vent on the Omega diff.

Roger

Plastic vent on top iirc.
Designed to let all the oil escape from the spare diff under the garage bench.

.. and the consequential smell of cat's pee takes about a year to go. >:(

Next time I rebuild a diff I'll do it down the back of the garden. :-X
