Title: Checking steering idler

With the car in the air, what's the best way to check for play in the NS steering idler?  :question

turn to full lock then keep rocking it sgainst the stop and look for up and down movement is how i always do it, do it on both locks!! any lift means its knackered!!!!! :y

I posted this thread first, but slipped it into the other discussion 'cos that one seemed to be moving quicker  ::)

Interestingly, when rocking the wheel there did seem to be a little bit of movement, but not excessive. It seemed like the whole bar was moving, including the track rod on the Offside..

Is there any play in the track rod end on the other side?
