a bit of help needed. aux belt tensioner is whining like mad and needs replacing. not sure how to go about it tho. have checked how to's but doesnt seem to be in there. any advice greatly appreciated. TIA.

You can buy just the pulley (about 20 quid).
Then its a case of pop the belt off, remove the pulley and refit
-
Just replace the pulley (around £15) rather than entire mech (£45). The pulley is available on its own. Just undo the nut.

Yes, 15mm ring spanner on the tensioner bolt and slacken belt to pop it off.
Remove the nut holding the pulley and remove the pulley.......
Fit new pulley, apply 15mm rings spanner to nut again to turn the tensioner in order to re-fit the belt again.

thanks all. will tackle it today if rain holds off. :y

have just changed the wheel on the tensioner but noise is still there. it's like a high ish pitch whining noise that rises and falls with the revs. any advice please.
-
pop the belt off and then start up. If you have the whine then its not the aux belt: suspect cambelt in that case.
If the whining stops when the belt is off then start looking at pulleys, alternator, water pump etc

only had cambelt done 5k ago at dealers so it better not be that >:( >:(
will go pop belt off in a min and have a listen

is that 5k less than a year ago? if so, should still be under warranty

If your reasonably compitent then you can change the bearings, not hard and they are available form most bearing factors for under a tenner the pair.
