put new belt on, timed it up, went to turn crank over, got a bit stiff, and then it slipped a notch or so many. what do i do now? turn crank back and reset timing with kit? or what?
help!
-
I think you failed to set the tension on the belt before you turned over.
My advice would be to try to turn the crank back to TDC, and the cams back to get the cam locks in. turn cams and crank carefully - if you get resistance (i.e. values and pistons meeting) then you have problems! do not force it
-
Don't turn the crank backwards with the belt on.
Best course of action is to remove the belt, turn the crank to either 60 degrees before or after the TDC position, whichever is closest and lock the cams back in their correct positions, then turn the crank back to the TDC position and fit the belt again.
If, at any point, there is resistance to turning anything, don't force it.

ok, ive got it all set up again, but i get to a point where it just wont turn at all - ive cocked this up havent i?
there are two lines on all the cam gears - is there a certain one that has to line up?
i think i need present help with this one :'(
-
When you start, the cut out on the bottom pulley should be at 6 o clock, and cam 1 lmarking ined up with rear cambelt cover, and so on for the other cams..
Can you confirm this is/was the case?
-
There are numbers on all the cam markings, starting from number 1, the numbers 1 through to 4 respectively need to line up with the rear cover marks...
-
1, 2, 34, 34 are in the same alignment, now about a 1/4 of a turn round where its met with resistance
-
Whatever you do, do not force it.
as to the cam timing, you need, working from left to right, mark 1 on left, then mark 2, then mark 3 then mark 4 on the right hand cam. It is very easy to get the wrong marking lined up. you think it is right but it is not.
sorry but I'm not around this weekend but possibly can help out next weekend if you want, depends where you are, Reading is good for me.
If i were you (and I was in exactly your position recently) I would want an experienced eye to look at this
If you take some pics and load them up maybe we can help remotely.
Just take your time and you will get there
-
well i managed to re time the lot from scratch, and its running, got an error code though - i know how to see it but i dont know how to know what the code means?
-
What's the code.
Well done on the belt.

codes are here :y
but you got a facelift 2.6 how are you reading codes? :-[
-
foot on brake and acc to floor, turn to just before start, and watch the flashes :y
ok i get - including all flashes;
light goes out to start flashing, flash, flash, flash, flash out
4 flashes. is this code 13 then?
-
sorry if i'm not helping - don't know if 2.6s code are the same as 2.5&3.0 (bosch motronic 2.8.1) ??
if is the same remember code 31 (no rpm signal) should be ignored if engine not running
(i'm trying to help honest :-[)

not enough of the sequence - there will be more flashes
-
btw all flashes are 1-2 seconds apart.
not flashflashflashflash but flash flash flash flash
i'll go check again
no its just the four, unless the rest follow 2-3 minutes after?
code 1111 possibly?

do you mean:
flash
flash flash flash?
which would = 13
usuay repeated 3 times then moves on to next code or back to the begining (well that's what it does on a 3.0)
-
that might be it - each flash is 1-2 seconds apart and they dont repeat, well not within 1-2 minutes they dont
-
that might be it - each flash is 1-2 seconds apart and they dont repeat, well not within 1-2 minutes they dont
each digit is seperated by a small gap hence my
flash
flash flash flash :y
still need to confirm that later y26se engine uses same ecu and codes
anyone? ::)
-
each gap is the same if it makes any difference

I wasn't aware you could flash codes on a 2.6, as it's DBW?

neither am i?
but have heard of the press brake and acc and turn key trick before, but obviously only use a trust paperclip on mine
sorry if this ain't helpin rawsondsr but it's keeping your prob at top of list with lots of replies where someone more knowledgeable will notice :y
-
2.6 and 3.2 can be flashed using a trick with the pedals.
BOTH use a 4 digit code to comply with EOBD/OBDII
-
so is mycode 1111 then do you think/
-
If it is 1111, check the rear multiram electrical connector is plugged in ;)
-
where is that one ta/
-
where is that one ta/
right rear of plenum, partly obscured by scuttle...

1111 is valve 2 which is the front one.
-
which is... :-? :-[
a plug near the front?
-
Yep, its a plug that goes onto a small solenoid valve mounted on the front trumpets. The wiring loom should come from the cable tray on the cam cover, around the front of the trumpets first connecting to the MAF sensor (no air temp sensor on a 2.6) and then on to the multiram solenoid.....easy to miss

bugger, just checked, you're right.
Must stop trying to do codes from memory :-[
-
ahh so on the black pipework there are 2 plugs - i only remember pluging one in - i shall check later today and rport back.
thanks
-
Hi, you say you are near Dartford and Reading. I am in Folkestone and have an OBDII reader, if you are relatively local will happily read the codes on that for you.

sorry for confusing the issue last night :-[
is there a guide for flashing codes on 2.6/3.2? and a list of codes? ::)

See paperclip test in Maintenence Guides.
I haven't posted up and v6 4 digit DTCs. Very often 1 code covers multiple problems, and a good code reader is needed to tell apart.
-
just been out and had a good old search for the missing wire - found it eventually, slipped it on, and no more code! :D
job done :y

Well even if you say you spent 12 or 13 hours doing it, thats still a saving of £30 odd an hour :) Plus most likely quicker and easier next time! :)

Now part of Paperclip Test guide - combined the 2 as they are both the same, just different method to achieve

oh ok, nice one. just a small point tho, the video link explains the codes repeating in a loop, i did not experience this with my car :-/
