Post by: HerefordElite on 23 August 2008, 01:37:03
changed my rear silencer a couple of days ago and while under the car found a small spring about 3" long hanging from the very bottom of the rear damper mount :o where's it ment to go and what's it for? ::)

Look at the rear brake maintenance guide, sounds like the handbrake return spring that mounts on the rear of the brake backing plate

Mark had a look at your guide as soon as i saw the spring but wasn't quite clear if it's the same:

yes, looks like the spring from back of handbrake mech - the one that releases the handbrake tension.

Can be seen without any stripping down - look at the other side ;)

Releases the handbrake when not in use.

ah ha - it's the tension spring that holds the handbrake off while not in use ::)

so if they both FUBAR does that mean i'm driving around with my handbrake on all the time? i've often thought it feels like it's still on and tried to push the lever further down while driving :-/

that'll do wonders for my fuel consumption >:( >:( >:(
