Just over the last few days, the Omega has decided not to start first time. It will start second time, after coughing and spluttering a bit and then revs fine. There is no need to press the gas. Further the management light doesn't illuminate.
Just wondering whether this will get worse over time and I think I should do something about it. Is it possibly fuel related as I did have a hose replaced recently and it was fine after that.
Thanks.

Same here, basically the same engine although only 2,6. Usually starts ok, but sometimes have to take a second start and then the starting is more difficult and kind of coughing... No codes, no nothing else... Have had the program updated and (afaik) since then it has done this?!

Hmm... Had 2 instances of this, both on exceptionally hot days(for England) both times i wondered if i had been a bit too quick with the key and not cranked i long enough, its usually so reliable, but on both occasions it ran rough for 10 to 20 seconds after and then was fine as if nothing ever happened, no codes either. I posted it up along with an air con gremlin and only thing Mark dtm suggested was to clean the throttle inlet. But with all this taken care of by the fly by wire, i hope its not going to turn into an expensive electrical mare, i might start missing cleaning my old icv after all.
Your in the right country to run a 3.2 i guess, how much is fuel out there? 2p a litre? And lpg they pay you to take it away? ;D

One q on the cleaning: have you guys cleaned your intakes/plenums? Or is it only necessary for 2,5/3,0 engines? Could easily think that with a non-EGR engine the need for cleaning throttle side is not that essential?
On the original q, my symptoms/experiences are just like chrisgixers...

the throttle/plenum gets very oily due to the breather system, the cause of blown cam covers. Afik its done this way due to emissions so that the vapor is burnt off by the engine and cleaned by the cats , but it covers the intake with oil residue and this builds up over time clogging stuff up a bit.
Carb cleaner usually get rid, need a fair bit tho i would have thought, ive done a phew breather systems but not done the whole plenum/ throttle inlet.

Fuel here is about 11p a litre, thats super. Premium is about 10.3p a litre. Nobody bothers with premium or diesel. You have petrol pump attendants too and it feels as though the fuel is free and you are giving them a tip to fill your car up. Mind you water is probably more expensive.

How do you clean the throttle inlet /plenum? Is there an idiots guide. I guess it's worth a try.

Just an idea guys,it could have something to do with low fuel pressure.Maybe time to change the filter at the back of the car.

Did myn about a month ago but yes i know what you mean, my mates lexus is 300 plays up if you turn the key to quick, wait for the dash lights to go out and no problem, it just gives the pump time to charge the system, but in my case second time it played up i was chatting to a guy at work while i sat in the car and i am fairley sure the ignition had been on for 20 odd secs or so but i cant swear to it.

i just re read the first link and he does not mention splutterig or rough running on second start so probably not related :-/
-
it is probably fuel related because the problem occurs only once per day. For example drove to work and it started second time. When I start up for the home leg, it will start up first time.
-
Well, If ound this morning that pressing the gas pedal once before starting helped. So don't know whether it's the fuel filter or fuel rail.
Mind you my dad used to depress the gas pedal before starting his 1983 Cavalier and it used to wrok for him. ;D He only gave it up four or five years ago. ;D
